Hope
This post was originally shared on my Instagram in May of 2020. It is the eighth of nine posts in the Virtue Series.
“We can therefore HOPE in the glory of heaven promised by God to those who love him and do his will. In every circumstance, each one of us should hope, with the grace of God, to persevere "to the end" and to obtain the joy of heaven, as God's eternal reward for the good works accomplished with the grace of Christ. ” -CCC 1821
The sins against hope are presumption and despair. (We should neither presume God’s mercy, nor should we despair of it, because both sins assume that we know more than God.)
My thoughts: .
Whenever I am saddened by the state of the world, by my own sinfulness, by all that seems so wrong, so unjust, I am reminded that the virtue of Christian hope is not rooted in the things of this world. That until the Second Coming the effects of original sin will remain.
Humans also have an earthly hope for peace and freedom from illness. This is normal because it’s how God intended the world to be from the beginning! But we must not let earthly hope distract us from our journey towards our final destination of Heaven. Even good motives and intentions can become distorted and lead us away from God if we put those things before Him.
One day, God willing, all will be made right and I will see the face of my Beloved and bask in the glow of His love that was previously veiled. He is my Love, my Hope, and my Home.
Eyes on the prize, friends.
Praise be Jesus Christ, now and forever.
