Charity
This post was originally shared on my Instagram in May of 2020. It is the final of nine posts in the Virtue Series.
“Charity is the theological virtue by which we love God above all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God.” -CCC 1822
The sins against charity are indifference, ingratitude, lukewarmness, acedia (spiritual sloth), and hatred of God. 💔
3 🔥 quotes from St Thomas Aquinas about love/charity:
‘To love is to will the good of the other.’
‘Charity, by which God and neighbor are loved, is the most perfect friendship.’
‘It must be said that charity can, in no way, exist along with mortal sin.’
Cliche to have my husband in the photo below, but I can’t think of a better of example of charity. Kevin loves God so much and is an incredible example of putting God first. He’s also the type of man who loves you and let’s you know it, both with family and friends. He regularly asks me how he can serve me better. His career is more of a ministry and it allows him to serve teens with special needs and their families. Is he perfect? No, and he’s going to be mortified by this post, especially if you think that’s what I’m saying. But he tries, every day, to practice charity by willing the good of those around him.
Who is the example of love/caritas in your life? Your mother, sister, teacher, friend? Make sure you tell them how much their charity means to you.
